Exercising In the Colder Months

In the colder months it can be harder to find the motivation to exercise, the warmth of being indoors can seem a lot more appealing :) , but there are a lot of ways to stay motivated to train when the weather is colder and if you do take part in regular exercise outdoors there are numerous benefits for your health.


For those of you who feel motivated to embrace the cold when training here are some of the benefits you can expect;


  • You will burn more calories
  • You will strengthen your heart
  • You will build a tolerance for colder conditions
  • You will remember the importance of warm up and cool down routines
  • You will get a dose of Vitamin D
  • You will feel happier and more energized

If you just cannot get motivated to exercise outdoors during the cold months no matter how much you try then the best thing is do regular indoor fitness classes / training sessions or even do exercise at home. There are several option available and it’s great to train with other people as you get to know them that is another factor to make you go to do exercise even when the weather is colder.

To maintain your motivation make sure your regular exercise routine is one you enjoy as that will motivate you to keep doing it even when the weather gets cold, Also organize to exercise with friends or attend group classes with friends as you can give each other support and provide that extra motivation to get out of bed on a cold morning :), also dress appropriately, wear warm clothes so you don’t get affected the cold so much. Set yourself a challenge to complete over the winter months that will keep you motivated.

There are numerous challenges you could do and you could also get your friends involved in the challenges as well, this can provide you all the motivation you need, in fact the cold will probably be the last thing on your mind as you strive to complete the challenge :), Once you have made exercise a priority in your life and you feel the ongoing benefits this will drive you on to keep training regularly all throughout the year. So don’t let the cold deter you, make sure to keep moving all year round to experience improved fitness, health and well being :)
